Plot Shruti (Anushka Sharma) and Bittoo (Ranveer Singh) are supposed to get married on their engagement day but due to an accident, Shruti has to stay in a hospital for the first time in her life.  While Shruti is recovering in the hospital, Bittoo has been working and trying to make money so he can marry Shruti as soon as she is able to walk again.  Shruti has a painful past that she wants to forget and Bittoo wants to change his life to make things better. To make matters worse, a close friend of Shruti's, Soniya (Rakul Preet Singh) tries to force her to marry a rich, old man named Pappu (Kunal Khemu) instead of Bittoo.  Shruti does not want to get married, but Pappu insists and beats up Bittoo to make him agree to the marriage.  That is when Shruti's past comes to light and she reveals that she was raped by her fiancé, Pappu's brother.  As a result, Pappu beats up Bittoo and it looks like Bittoo is out of the picture, but he comes back to Shruti and vows to change his life.  Things are still not smooth between the couple, but at the end, they both accept their past mistakes and make a fresh start. The makers of the film were inspired to cast Sharma after noticing her involvement in a public walkathon held in Delhi to help victims of the earthquake in Pakistan in 2005.
